Deep throat
PracticesAlso known as: deepthroat
Deep throat refers to deep oral sex. In BDSM it’s a game of control that requires free breathing, an agreed signal and an immediate stop.
The English expression deep throat refers to a form of oral sex in which the partner takes the other deeply. It didn’t originate as a BDSM practice, but in this context it is often experienced as a gesture of surrender and trust, within a dynamic where one person leads and the other gives themselves over.
How it’s experienced
For many people it’s a personal challenge rather than a performance: you go step by step, with frequent breaks, respecting the body’s timing and natural reflexes, which vary a lot from person to person. It’s the person using their mouth who sets the pace, and nobody has to “endure” at all costs.
Why people enjoy it
For the person doing it, it can be a way to feel devoted, focused and completely present. For the other person, it’s above all the trust received that makes the moment intense.
Safety and consent
- Breathing must always remain free: the person doing it sets the pace and can pull away whenever they want.
- With a full mouth the safeword can’t be said: agree on a non-verbal signal, such as tapping the partner’s leg twice, and check beforehand that it works.
- At the signal, you stop immediately, without argument.
- Never hold the partner’s head against their will; control play must be agreed precisely.
- No alcohol or drugs, which reduce the ability to notice a problem.
- Coughing, gagging or tears must be listened to: it’s the body asking for a break.
As with any oral practice, the usual sexual health precautions apply, including regular testing and protection.
