Pegging

PracticesAlso known as: strap-on, role reversal

Pegging is a practice in which a woman penetrates her male partner with a strap-on: often experienced as a game of role reversal and trust.

The term pegging refers to a practice in which a woman, using a strap-on, that is a harness with an attachment, penetrates her male partner. The name was coined in the early 2000s, but the practice is much older. It isn’t necessarily BDSM: many couples simply experience it as a way of exploring pleasure.

In BDSM

In the context of female dominance, pegging often becomes a gesture of power, with the Mistress taking the active role. For other couples it’s precisely the reversal of usual roles that makes it interesting, without any element of humiliation. The meaning is decided by the people involved, not by the stereotype.

Why people enjoy it

For the person receiving, there can be new sensations and a strong sense of surrender and trust. For the person doing it, there can be the pleasure of control and of an experience outside the usual patterns. Contrary to a widespread prejudice, enjoying it says nothing about a person’s sexual orientation.

Safety and consent

  • Clear, specific consent is needed: it’s an intimate practice, new to many, to be approached calmly and without pressure.
  • Use toys designed for this purpose, with a flared base, made of body-safe material that’s easy to clean; choose small ones to start with.
  • Plenty of lubricant, suitable for the toy’s material.
  • Thorough hygiene and condoms on the toy, to be changed when moving from one area to another or from one person to another.
  • Go slowly, take breaks and keep communicating; at the first sign of pain, stop. Pain must never be part of this practice.

Talking about it beforehand, even laughing a little at the awkwardness, helps far more than any technique.

Pain that persists, bleeding or other symptoms after the practice should be seen by a doctor.
